As a medical doctor with expertise in instructional design and education research, Anthony brings a unique skill set to DeLI, which he founded in 2004. Translating difficult concepts into easy to understand learning experiences, within the limits of technology, is a challenge that Anthony loves. As the John R. Evans Chair in Health Sciences Educational Research and Instructional Development, he focuses on the integration and testing of new learning technologies to improve health education for health care professionals and the public. An Associate Professor at McMaster University, Anthony teaches extensively across the spectrum of medical education and maintains an active clinical practice in the area of medical psychiatry.

🍙 Chris Sisson
Support & QA Lead
Whether you’re experiencing a technical issue or just can’t set up your new phone – Chris goes above and beyond to help you have the best e-learning experience. He’s worked in support and quality assurance for over 15 years and combines customer service and technical support with a much needed dose of comic relief. Navigating technology can be frustrating and solving problems is part of what motivates Chris – he’s passionate about helping people. Having worked at Canadian Tire’s headquarters for 7 years, his background in IT support and quality assurance give him the skills he needs to handle even the most challenging situations with the utmost professionalism. Just don’t be fooled by the IT exterior, Chris is also a skilled maker - he carves, sculpts and draws!

Art Director
James is our talented, award-winning designer. He has been creating beautiful illustrations, animations and interactive designs for 12 years. Whether he’s using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects or Maxon Cinema 4D, James knows just the right tool to bring an idea to life. He is known for breaking down visual communication barriers and believes that good design can act a catalyst for health education, helping people grasp new ideas and effecting positive change. He also works with a number of Indigenous communities, which he feels adds diversity and value to his work. James studied Business and Marketing in his undergrad and later pursued a diploma in Digital Media Design from Red River College. Fun fact: You’ll know James is on a creative tear when he starts humming (he knows the entire Moana soundtrack by heart).

🌻 Jodie Bousfield
e-Learning Developer
With more than a decade of experience, Jodie knows exactly how to communicate complex information to all levels of learners. She can build and customize content for specific audiences with different kinds of accessibility needs. Having studied both graphic and e-learning design, she really is a Jill of all trades; on any given day, Jodie might be editing audio or visuals, providing tech support or editing code. She’s a quick study when it comes to new technology and different learning management systems. Knowing that our projects have a real impact on the broader community is part of what inspires Jodie to make our e-learning the very best. On top of her technical expertise, Jodie is a magician on a sewing machine and can make just about anything you can dream up.

Software Architect
John has been transforming caffeine into beautiful code for over 2 decades. He is an expert at solving unique, complex problems and anticipating outcomes – a skill fuelled by curiosity and perseverance. John believes that coding is an invisible art and that well thought-out solutions are truly beautiful; for him, there’s nothing like the satisfaction of seeing a project come together in the final product. He’s proud of his decade of involvement in the Medportal curriculum database project and that he’s helped over 150,000 people learn about anaphylaxis with Allergy Aware. John’s expertise is the result of a mix of self-teaching and studying Computer Science at Sheridan College. While coding may be John’s true love, his work funds his other obsession – board games (he’s got 350+ in his collection!)

🥌 Laura DiCarlo
Information Specialist
For over 20 years, Laura has been using her expertise in the library sciences to help inspire learning. She’s always worked in educational settings and is passionate about working with students. Laura was hired at McMaster to catalogue and automate the Lyons Instructional Media Centre, a large collection of audio visual and electronic materials. In 2008, Laura took a position on the Medportal team and has been heavily involved in the curriculum database project, tracking and indexing undergraduate curriculum for the Michael G. DeGroot School of Medicine. She has an undergraduate degree from McMaster and a Masters of Library and Information Science from Western University as well as a Library Technician diploma from Sheridan. Laura’s discipline extends beyond her methodical approach to organization; she’s also run the Chicago marathon.

With over 30 years of experience, Lori’s project management skills are heightened by her finely honed ability to look beyond the surface. This data geek loves to analyze numbers, find the meaning behind them and look for actionable recommendations to make our work even better. She helps our clients articulate their needs in a way that translates to tech-talk. Having always worked in entrepreneurial environments, Lori knows how to be creative with limited resources in order to achieve a goal. With an Honours Degree in Biochemistry and an MBA from McMaster, Lori isn’t quite finished; she believes in continuing education and the importance of learning. In her off hours, she’s a wine and hiking enthusiast (but not at the same time).

Program Administrator
Marie is the behind the scenes administrator who makes all this magic possible. Her organizational skills and creativity keep our team, finances, office and calendars running smoothly. She handles all of DeLI’s human resource queries and creates a warm and efficient work environment. But that’s not all! She manages patient experiences and connects them with their point of care. Marie loves working with patients because she believes that what we do has a real impact on the broader community. She just celebrated her 20 year anniversary at McMaster and has over 30 years of experience. Marie studied experimental and fine arts at the Ontario College of Art and got her start in health education at CHEO, drawing illustrations of medical equipment for children’s colouring books.

Marketing Specialist
Mike has been a marketing professional for over 2 years, but he’s always been interested in how people interact with the latest technology. Staying up to date on evolving marketing tools is part of what inspires Mike; he loves the challenge of reaching the right audience, at the right time, with the right medium. Mike’s skills include graphic design, copy writing, digital marketing and event planning – talk about a renaissance man. He’s passionate about storytelling, be it visually or through creative copy. Mike did his undergrad in Sociology right here at McMaster University and a post graduate program at Mohawk College in Public Relations. While he focuses on digital marketing at work, it’s all analog at home – his vinyl collection is something to see (he’s got over 150 albums)!

Ryan is a full stack developer & designer and has been building websites for over 13 years. Finding the best technology to meet client’s needs is important to Ryan. He enjoys working in an environment that encourages learning and exploring the newest languages and software. Ryan admits to being a little ‘OCD’ when it comes to designing, he loves being able to build out a site from beginning to end. While other 15-year olds had boring summer jobs, this entrepreneur had his own business building websites. He followed this passion to school, studying Software Engineering at Mohawk and Interactive Multimedia at Sheridan. Whether he’s at work, at home, or racing motocross bikes, Ryan is always thinking about his next project.

🦄 Stephanie Ayers
Research Assistant
Stephanie entered the wonderful world of research in 2018 with the perfect mix of enthusiasm, ingenuity, and assorted baked goods. Steph earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from McMaster in 2013, but later went on to earn her Bachelor of Education from Charles Sturt University of Australia in 2014 and then a post-graduate program in Autism and Behavioural Sciences from Mohawk College in 2016.
With a background in Behavioural Analysis and Education, Stephanie was able to quickly dive into the various projects our team works on here. She is organized, analytical and decisive which has quickly allowed her to defy the dynamic requirements of a modern-day researcher. She is thoughtful, a good listener, and open-minded which makes her an excellent participant interviewer. Her favourite part of her job is tackling new challenges and unfamiliar territory head-on.
When she finds the time, Steph enjoys making delectable baked treats for the team - how sweet!

Figuring out bugs is a favourite pastime for our developer Steve, who has over 15 years of experience coding. He’s proficient in a wide range of languages and frameworks, including C#, Javascript, Nativescript and Sitefinity. He loves working with the latest tools to solve problems and improve people’s workflows. His favourite thing about work, is simply work; Steve is self-directed and hardworking, keeping his nose to the grindstone to make sure projects get done well and on time.
